 problems after problems September 9, 2010

i have tried the 500gb and the 1tb models of
"the my dvr expander". i wanted them to work so
badly you have no idea. first off, i will say
that i am using a scientific atlanta hd dvr with
time warner cable. i have been thru 3 500gb models
and 1 of the 1 tb models.
set up and installation is a snap. i follow the directions
exactly as they state and everything works great, the problems
always start to occur after the install. only a part of a show
will be recorded/the dvr functions start to slow down/the box starts
to freeze and has to be re-set/it is just one thing after another.
i have finally given up, i tried and hoped, but the dvr just can't seem
to work with the dvr expander. i hope others have better luck!

Attached to my Tivo HD Premier. Easy to install. So far so good after three months of use. Paying a little over $100 to gain 160 HD hours is a cheaper way of getting more space than the Tivo Premier XL option.

This is an excellent product for the money. It expanded my Tivo memory by 10x It operates flawlessly. My only complaint is the size If it were based on a 2.5" harddrive platform and not a 3.5" it would be smaller and therefore perfect.

I have a Tivo HD and this summer especially after a one week vacation, was quickly running out of space and resulting in our favorite shows either not being recorded or oldest ones deleted. I did a lot of search and ended up with this unit which I believe is the only one certified by Tivo (I checked with Tivo Support). The installation, although you must carefully follow instructions, was real easy and it took a total of maybe 15 minutes. Powered up the Tivo unit, followed instruction and Tivo recognized and configured it. Ever since then, the only reason I even know I have an extra device in my ET cabinet, is that all my shows are being recorded (there are ~200 shows in my Tivo Suggestion folder now vs. 0 before adding this expander) and don't have to worry about anything being deleted before we have a chance to watch them. Noise level is very low and Tivo menu performance seems unchanged. I highly recommend this if Tivo's standard storage is not enough.

This couldn't be much easier. You just plug it into your Tivo, reboot, follow the instructions. My Tivo HD shows 156 hours of HD recording capacity now, which is pretty darn great.
The drive DOES come with an eSata cable, so don't bother ordering one with it. I was fooled by the misleading page here, but luckily the goofy shipping that Amazon does allowed me to cancel the cable after I got the drive, because the cable hadn't shipped yet.
